Criminalistics

General Information

Criminalists, also known as Forensic Lab Technicians, are growing in numbers due to advances in the methods and technologies used to gather and analyze evidence. Criminalists have employment opportunities at local, state, and federal levels of government as well as private firms.

Criminalists reconstruct the crime using physical evidence found at the scene. Physical evidence can be as large as the crime scene itself, requiring observation of tire tracks and shoe prints or as insignificant as a fiber or vapor. In the chaotic aftermath of a crime, criminalists have an eye for the pertinent evidence, which is taken to the crime lab for various testing.
