Professor Debra Hanselman, LMSW, is a full-time Associate Professor of Social Work. Professor Hanselman received her Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2000 from Marygrove College and her Master of Social Work from Wayne State University in 2001, with a concentration in family, children and youth. She began teaching at Marygrove College as an adjunct professor in Summer 2006, and became a half-time faculty member in Fall 2008. In 2010 Prof. Hanselman became a full-time member of the faculty. In 2015, Professor Hanselman assumed the role of director of the social work program.
In her previous position as a social worker at Oakland Family Services, Professor Hanselman provided clinical services in the behavioral health areas. Her specialties include substance abuse, peer recovery coaching, women's issues, and prisoner re-entry for parolees. Additionally, she served as a program liaison for Oakland Family Services, working with court judges, probation officers and probationers at the district and circuit court levels. Professor Hanselman is currently writing a text/workbook that will be used to train peer recovery mentors throughout the state of Michigan.
