MARYGROVE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 2007 HONOR STUDENTS
DETROIT, MI,
April 27, 2007 – At the
2007 Honors Convocation, Marygrove
College recognized
students who exemplify its ideals in academic performance and service to the
college or the community.
Five individuals received High Honors and College-Wide Awards,
including
- Jay
Biernat of Detroit, Michigan, who received the Marie Louise DeMarco McLeod
Scholarship awarded to the first year full-time student with the
highest GPA;
- Marissa
Byrd of Bloomfield Hills,
Michigan, who received the Sr. John Clement Hungerman Scholarship
awarded to the sophomore or junior who exemplifies Sr. Hungerman’s
interests and ideals. Sr. Hungerman was a proponent of women getting into
the field of science;
- Amy
Pavlov of Marysville, Michigan, who received the Shay Family Scholarship awarded to a returning Marygrove
student who has exhibited academic and leadership excellence and high
ethical standards of conduct;
- Debra
Barash of Rochester Hills, Michigan, who received the St. Catherine Medal/Margaret DeSantis Scholarship awarded to a
sophomore or junior for outstanding service to the College or with the
best record for progressive achievement; and
- Ernest
Mavunga of Harare, Zimbabwe, who was awarded the Distinguished Student Award as the
outstanding graduating senior for academic excellence, leadership ability
and service to the community.
Ernest has been accepted to Duke University
Medical School.
Several other students received scholarships, external
recognition by Iota Gamma Alpha, Kappa Gamma Pi, National Dean’s List and Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, and
divisional awards. The names and awards
