NOVEMBER 9 “HAVE A SEAT” AUCTION SUPPORTS

MARYGROVE STUDENTS

DETROIT, MI, OCTOBER 5, 2006Marygrove College will celebrate Founders’ Day with the second annual “Have a Seat…and more!” Chair Auction and Strolling Dinner on Thursday, November 9, 2006, on its campus at 6 p.m.

The auction features the work of local, national and international artists, including faculty and staff, who have transformed vintage Marygrove chairs and other items into works of art.  Other items, such as dinner with Marygrove’s new president, Dr. David Fike, will also be auctioned.

The auction begins with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. followed by the strolling dinner and live and silent auction at 7:30 p.m. in the Madame Cadillac Building on Marygrove’s campus.

“Have a Seat…and more!” commemorates the founding of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHMs), Marygrove’s founders and sponsors, in Monroe, Michigan, in 1845, as well as the College’s founding in Detroit in 1927 and its predecessor, St. Mary College in Monroe in 1905.  The event grew out of a challenge from retired President Dr. Glenda Price to faculty, staff, alumni, students and artists to convert classic Marygrove classroom chairs into objets d’art that could still have value for the college.

Premium tickets are $125 and include the VIP reception, dinner and auction.  Patron tickets are $75 and include the strolling dinner and auction.

Sponsorships are available. For more information or to become a sponsor, please contact Maureen Leonard at (313) 927-1308 or mleonard@marygrove.edu.  Net proceeds from this event will go to support the College in providing the highest educational experience for its students.
