Marygrove College Celebrates Black History Month

 

 

Detroit, Michigan – January 29, 2005  – February is a chance to celebrate Black History Month by reflecting on the contributions made to the world by those of African descent.  The following is a list of upcoming Black History Month events at Marygrove College.  These events are open to the public.  Unless indicated otherwise, the events are free.

 

Wednesday, February 9

African American Vendors Fair

Great sales on clothing, jewelry, art, herbs/spices and more

11:00-3:00 p.m.

Monday, February 14

Beats, Relationships and Love

Learn how music can influence your perceptions and interactions in relationships.

Featured speakers:  Khary Kimani Turner and Tunesia Turner

Friday, February 18

Showtime at Marygrove

Marygrove students and youth from the metropolitan Detroit community will showcase their talents in this Apollo style talent show competition.

8:00 p.m., Marygrove College Theatre

After party: 10:00 p.m., Main Dining Room

Admission: $10 (includes party)

Special guest performance by Detroit’s own Slum Village

Detroit’s Poet Laureate Naomi Long Madgett

Author of the recently published Connected Islands: New and Selected Poems.  Book-signing to follow presentation.

New York City's Urban Ballet Theatre will present “Disillusioned”
