Honor Student at Marygrove College Finds Money

to Pay for Education

Detroit, Michigan—Marygrove College student VieAnna Mattox refuses to allow hikes in tuition to prevent her from attending college.  Instead, the native Detroiter has taken matters into her own hands by applying for scholarships to help defray costs for tuition.  As a result, she was awarded the Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship for $1,000, the Datatel Returning Student Scholarship for $1,500, the USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship for $1,500, and a $5,000 scholarship from Beneficial Company.

“If you have a desire to see changes in your life, they are not impossible,” said Mattox.  “There’s a lot of money out there and what’s stopping you from being one of the recipients?  It’s not always easy to get the money, but it’s worth the effort to pursue your dream.”

Mattox credits her daughter for encouraging her to attend college. “I was impressed with my daughter’s efforts and wanted to go back,” said Mattox.  “I didn’t have an opportunity until summer 2002, which is when I started Marygrove. I haven’t taken a break since.”
