Dance
Troupe Struts Stuff in Senior Production
Detroit, Michigan--November 9, 2004--The seniors of the
Marygrove College Dance Department will present “Intrinsic Expressions,” a
dance concert that will offer a glimpse of Michigan’s future dance artists,
choreographers and teachers. There
will be two showings in the Marygrove College Theatre: Friday, December 10th
at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are
$10.00 for general admission and $5.00 for seniors and students.
The choreography of “Intrinsic
Expressions” is a concept that evolves from childhood innocence and extends to
adult maturity. Dance styles such as
classical ballet, modern/contemporary, jazz and hip-hop are used as the vehicle
in which each choreographer tells their story. The concert opens with a ballet
number choreographed to original music composed by native Detroiter Lumumba
Reynolds II and ends with a funky hip-hop piece that gives a look into the
underground dance club scene of New York City and downtown Detroit.
“This is a culminating
experience and debut into the professional world,” said Penny Godboldo,
associate professor of the dance department. “Therefore, it will be an exciting event that you will not want to
miss. The students are graded on every
aspect of this production from the initial audition to the final presentation.”
The performers are Debra
Cherveny, Anwar Harper, Anthony Madison of Detroit, Mariama Jenkins of Lathrop
Village, and Angela Pope of Taylor, Michigan.
Marygrove College is a liberal
arts college located on 53 wooded acres in one of Detroit’s oldest residential
neighborhoods. More than 1,200 students
attend classes in its undergraduate and graduate programs in education, social
work, the liberal and fine arts. ###
