Marygrove College Offers Seminar to Educate Students and Community of Detroit’s History and Culture

Detroit, Michigan—Marygrove College will offer an interdisciplinary seminar for its students and the community to discover the culture of Detroit.  The seminar, “Detroit Collision:  Time, Place, Space,” refers to the historical context, architectural structure and the cultural experience of landmark institutions in Detroit. The seminar begins September 10, 2004 and will take place at various cultural sites in the city.

“This seminar will give people a sense of Detroit by viewing and analyzing films and through visits to landmark venues such as Marygrove College, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Gem Theatre,” said Dena Scher, professor of psychology at Marygrove College and coordinator of the seminar.  “We will also look at when these venues were built and what was happening in Detroit at the time.”

Students will prepare for each visit or film through online course assignments and discussions.  For costs or additional information, call Dena Scher at 313-927-1303.
