EDU 663 High Performing Teacher 3 credits
This course sets the tone for the entire master’s degree program.
You will examine the profile of high performing-teachers and strategies
for overcoming challenges that work against the teacher’s self-esteem.
EDU 587 Achieving Student Outcomes through Cooperative Learning
3 credits
In this course you focus on strategies that improve interpersonal skills
needed to work in groups. You will have practice in organizing, conducting
and assessing cooperative learning projects. Additional portfolio assignments
are required if this course was taken as a stand-alone course.
EDU 617 Technology in the Classroom 3 credits
This course will provide you the opportunity to explore the variety of
modes available for instruction today. The use of computers as an aid
for both teaching and learning will be examined. You will demonstrate
your competence in designing strategies for integrating computers and
other technology into existing school curriculum.
EDU 584 Teaching through Learning Channels 3 credits
In this course you are provided with opportunities to identify your own
learning preference and to recognize the variety of learning channels
that students use. You will demonstrate your competence to create strategies
for reaching all kinds of learners (including those at risk). Additional
portfolio assignments are required if this course was taken as a stand-alone
course.
EDU 588 Teaching Skills of the 21st Century 3 credits
This course uses dynamic videotape productions, activities, articles and
unique survey instruments to look at what students need to know and be
able to do to live life successfully. Additional portfolio assignments
are required if this course was taken as a stand-alone course.
EDU 571 Managing the Classroom: Strategies and Techniques 3 credits
In this course you will analyze the dynamics of the classroom unit and
build your competence in using effective classroom management strategies.
The need for parental support will be explored and strategies for working
effectively with parents will be presented.
EDU 695 Action Research: Process, Theory and Design, and Practicum
3 credits
This course focuses on both the theoretical foundations of collaborative
action research and the practical application of the process itself. In
this course you will demonstrate your competence as a committed professional
dedicated to working with your peers to add to the knowledge base of the
research on teaching in the 21st century. You will select a topic or issue
related to your teaching specialization, student learning or the teaching
profession in general. You will analyze, interpret, and study the design
of research models and evaluation techniques prominent in current educational
practice and review available literature related to the topic/issue you
selected. Finally, you will develop a research proposal and conduct an
action research project appropriate for your portfolio.
EDU 606 Techniques and Strategies to Assist Students with Special
Needs
in the Regular Classroom 3 credits
In this course you will explore behavior strategies, teaching and learning
methods, and assessment methods for including
students with special needs in regular classrooms.
EDU 605 Instructional Design and Assessment: Integrating the Curriculum
3 credits
In this course, you will examine the relationship between the curriculum
and instructional designs and authentic assessments with a focus on a
holistic integrated learning model to address the multiple intelligences
of students.
EDU 589 Meaningful Activities to Generate Interesting Classrooms
(M.A.G.I.C.) 3 credits
This course shows teachers how to structure exciting, engaging learning
activities that unlock the Creative minds of their students. For all teachers,
this course provides stimulating projects and activities that apply to
the elementary day, the middle school schedule, or the 90-minute secondary
block. Additional portfolio assignments are required if this course was
taken as a stand-alone course.
