The Marygrove Learning Resource Center (MLRC) provides free GED classes,
preparation and testing to people who meet certain criteria; comprehensive
services in adult basic education (ABE); job readiness training; job placement
assistance; and employment retention support. A program of Marygrove College,
MLRC operates under contract with the Detroit Workforce Development Department, a Michigan Works! Agency. Services are provided at no cost to participants who meet
state and/or city eligibility requirements.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES, A MICHIGAN WORKS! AFFILIATE:

CRITERIA FOR THE EDUCATIONAL LEARNING COMPENENTS:
GED Preparation:

Minimum 7th grade level reading and math skills required
ABE Preparation:
• Minimum 5th grade level reading skills required
GED Testing, by appointment:
• Registration is Monday at noon only
• Waiver required if under 18
• GED testing is available on site at MLRC
• GED testing is free to MLRC participants
• GED testing is $50 to Detroit residents and $100 to other walk-ins (Non-LRC, referred)
* Note: To receive services, potential participants must meet eligibility requirements as outlined under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Job Education Training (JET).

OF THE MARYGROVE LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
Individualized Instruction
MLRC participants receive state-of-the-art computer-assisted instruction
and intensive, one-on-one tutoring to promote rapid achievement of educational
goals.
Employment Assistance
Comprehensive employment services are provided at MLRC. Job development
staff members instruct participants in essential skills including resume
and cover letter writing, interviewing, job search strategies, and positive
work habits. Job developers match participants with positions suited
to their skills, interests and goals, which helps to develop a foundation
for a successful, long-term career.
Case Management and Referral
MLRC provides comprehensive case management. This includes assistance
in accessing a variety of resources, from transportation reimbursement
to referrals for clothing, housing, or counseling.
