The following is a broad listing of services the library offers and availability by population.

User Services

  • Point-of-service instruction & assistance as well as in-depth information counseling appointments - all by professional librarians (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • Reference services for on-campus and distance learners provided by telephone, e-mail, or IM. (1, 2 ,3)
  • Borrowing privileges for books in the library’s circulating and reserves collections (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5)
  • Library display cases, an electronic information kiosk, photocopiers, and new book displays (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • 3-hour use of videotapes, DVDs, and audiotapes (1, 2, 3, 4)
  • Support in building and improving technology literacy skills provided by a technology training specialist in the Student Technology Instruction Center (STIC) (1)
  • Assistance with integration of technology into courses provided by the director of educational technology services (2)
  • Instruction sessions for classes of all levels & in all disciplines by a librarian, in the library’s electronic classroom (2)
  • Reservations for library meeting rooms (2, 3)

Learning Resources

  • An extensive print and electronic reference collection, newspapers, scholarly journals and magazines (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • A circulating book collection of upwards of 90,000 items, including children's and curriculum collections (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • Electronic databases, e-books, and other resources -- accessible online from the library or home (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • Access to materials of other libraries through reciprocal borrowing agreements and interlibrary loans (1, 2 ,3 ,4)
  • DALNET membership, which facilitates easy access to catalogs of other members’ libraries, including WSU, UDM, and DPL (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)

Facilities and Equipment

  • Convenient hours of operation: 7 days a week, daytimes and evenings, during the school year (shorter hours during the summer & between terms) (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • Public computers with Internet access and MS Office software in the reference room, including an assistive-technology equipped workstation (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5)
  • Friendly, and service-oriented atmosphere in the air-conditioned comfort of the library's own wing of the Liberal Arts Building with a mix of study and learning spaces (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
  • Student Technology Instruction Center (STIC): a drop-in computer lab and a technology instruction lab (1)
  • Faculty Technology Center (L013) for assistance in incorporating technology into teaching and learning (2)
  • Self-serve use of equipment such as: typewriters, audiotape duplicating machine, and a laminating machine (1, 2 ,3 ,4)
  • The Beyond Words Gallery of changing art exhibits (1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5, 6)
