Departments

Educational Leadership (1)

A Master of Arts in Educational Leadership will provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in managing and leading the modern school. This program focuses on the principal as the instructional leader and the chief architect of change in the school. In addition to a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles of administrative and management theory and capacity building, students will be introduced to the concept of the principal as change agent. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring organizational development, assessment, change skills and identifying and working with the issues facing the urban school administrator.

Educational Technology (1)

Graduates of the program will become leaders in using computers and integrating educational technology in the classrooms. They will also become technology experts in the school and school district. The technology revolution has touched all aspects of teaching and administration in today’s schools. As a result educators—teachers, professionals, and administrators alike—must keep up with changes and make choices among an ever expanding array of technology resources.

English (2)

The Master of Arts in English is designed to provide both theoretical and practical foundations for teaching English in community colleges or high schools. It is a 33-credit-hour program whose courses are offered in the evening and on weekends. Two required core courses will give a solid base for graduate English studies, while two 600-level advanced seminars will offer rigorous opportunities to explore various disciplinary topics in depth. The flexibly conceived Masters Project will provide an opportunity for students to further explore their topic of interest in literary works or in teaching composition.

Marygrove’s education programs range from Early Childhood Education through Adult Learning. Our goal is to prepare compassionate, reflective teachers who are academically, socially, and technically competent to communicate with all learners in a diverse world.

Human Resources Management (2)

The Master of Arts degree and graduate certificate programs in Human Resource Management help practicing HRM specialists or other organization staff members moving into HRM to advance their knowledge and skills in the field.

Master in the Art of Teaching (22)

Known for excellence in teaching since 1905, Marygrove College has been offering the convenience of online MAT classes and the flexibility of its Master in the Art of Teaching (MAT) online degree program since 1990. Marygrove's MAT degree provides teachers with the opportunity to link the latest developments in educational research to their own teaching practice. The MAT degree program is designed to empower teachers by focusing on the knowledge and skills required to deliver effective instruction to diverse learners from preschool through high school, including those with special needs.

Modern Language Translation (3)

The Modern Language Translation program is designed for professionals who plan to pursue a career in translation and train for the American Translators Association (ATA) certification. The certificate is also intended for individuals who wish to communicate effectively in a multilingual and multicultural work environment. The sequence of courses provides translation training from Arabic, French, or Spanish into English.

Marygrove-educated teachers can be found in public and private schools across the nation in classrooms and in leadership positions.

Reading & Literacy (5)

The present program is designed to provide advanced study in theories of literacy development that will prepare its graduates to serve in leadership roles as reading teachers, reading specialists, or as reading clinicians in public, private, or parochial school settings. Flexibility within the program provides opportunities for students from differing backgrounds to acquire specific skills and knowledge to meet their individual needs.

Social Justice (4)

Social justice education is important. The Master’s Program in Social Justice flows from the mission of Marygrove College. The program is ideal for those interested in learning and promoting social justice/change. It provides for analysis and reflection in the ways of thinking, the values, assumptions, and the actions that maintain the economic, political, and cultural structures that shape our lives. It also seeks to build competencies and skills to transform these structures toward a more just society. In addition, this program seeks to create an internal culture of justice among the candidates.
