Marygrove College receives $20K grant from the Erb Foundation
“I am thrilled that the Erb Foundation, through its funding, has recognized the Institute of Music and Dance at Marygrove College as an asset to the cultural arts education community in Michigan and in particular to the City of Detroit, said Judith Molina, IMD Director. “The funding will be used to provide scholarships for talented students to attend IMD arts enrichment classes in dance, music, theater and art. The Erb Foundation, like the Institute of Music and Dance, values educating our youth in the arts as they realize that an arts education builds more involved, active and engaged future leaders.”
According to Erb Foundation President John M. Erb, “Investing in our belief that cultural and arts organizations are critical building blocks of a vibrant City and region, we approved a total of $2,420,000 payable over 2 years to support 35 such organizations. This includes $1,450,000 for 8 large organizations that historically have been supported by my parents, Fred and Barbara Erb, and $970,000 for 27 additional organizations located in the City of Detroit.”
The Institute of Music and Dance at Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan, is a year-round school of the arts and part of a rich cultural heritage that began with the founding of the Detroit Institute of Musical Arts in 1914. That tradition of providing the best in community fine arts education continues at the Institute of Music and Dance at Marygrove College. Its mission is to provide students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds with high quality, developmentally appropriate programs in music, dance, theater and visual arts. The purpose of the IMD is to nurture and harness creativity, strengthen technical and performance skills, heighten artistic awareness and encourage a lifelong interest in the arts.
Molina continued, “Marygrove’s Institute of Music and Dance is extremely grateful to the Erb Foundation for providing a second and third year of funding. Awarding scholarships to students who would otherwise be unable to attend these arts enrichment classes is incredibly gratifying.”
