Brenda Price to serve as director

DETROIT, May 25, 2012 — Marygrove College today announced Ms. Brenda Price as director of the newly established Office of Urban Leadership Initiatives. Ms. Price will report to Marygrove President Dr. David J. Fike and administer grant expenditures, establish and coordinate project timelines, and assure overall grant compliance related to the College’s $1.5 million, three-year Building Our Leadership in Detroit (BOLD) initiative, funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. In addition, she will help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward partnerships with other philanthropic and public sector agencies capable of supporting the College’s Urban Leadership initiatives.

Her extensive experience in philanthropy and community network building will serve Marygrove well in her new position. In helping to achieve the goals of the BOLD Initiative, Ms. Price will work closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs as well as other faculty and administrative leaders to support the Teaching and Learning Leadership Teams (TLLTs) that are a critical component of the College's effort to build its Urban Leadership curriculum. In that context, she will also support and help enhance a wide range of current and newly-developing activities related to Marygrove’s Urban Leadership work, such as: community engagement activities rooted in various Academic Departments, the Student Affairs division (campus ministry, service learning, student clubs), the Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement, the Our Neighborhood Engaged (ONE) initiative, and the Office of Continuing Education and Career Enhancement.

Ms. Price has been working with the College as its first "Urban Leadership Fellow" since November, 2010. Prior to that, she served the Detroit community as a Program Director for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; a Senior Program Officer for the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan; and the Government Liaison and Community Affairs Representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She has earned a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University and her Bachelor of Arts degree is in Political Science from Oakland University.
