Marygrove College and more specifically the Women’s Center, and the Social Work Department are sponsoring this event with SASHA Center-a community based organization formed to assist survivors of sexual assault.

The event will include poetry, music, dance, refreshments, guest speakers, a march and candlelight vigil acknowledging sexual assault survivors. Features of the event will include the “Tocheva-Wall of Hope” project, the “Healing Tent” and the “Clothesline” display. A scholarship award to a student/woman of color at Marygrove College will receive the Ava Rogers scholarship for recognition of her work to end violence against women and children.

Community agencies that assist survivors of sexual assault have been invited and will also be present to provide information and referrals to participants. The Wayne County Safe Project, First Step, Turning Point, SASHA Center, Interim House, and the Victim Assistance Program have all been invited to attend.

Goals of this event:

To send a loud and clear message that sexual assault survivors on campus and within the community no longer have to suffer in silence and isolation.

To publicly proclaim that sexual assault and abuse in our community is unacceptable, inexcusable and will not be tolerated.

To raise our community’s consciousness about the effects of sexual violence and its impact on metro Detroit, as well as provide support to survivors and inspire all to hope and to heal.
