On April 19, 2013, the Department of English and Modern Languages will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bauder Contemporary American Authors Series.

Our guest artist will be award-winning poet Terrance Hayes, the author of Lighthead (Penguin 2010), which won the National Book Award for Poetry; Wind in a Box (2006); Hip Logic (2002), which won the 2001 National Poetry Series and was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award; and Muscular Music (1999), which won the Kate Tufts Discovery Award.

Mr. Hayes will deliver the Lillian and Don Bauder Lecture at 8 pm on Friday, April 19, 2013, in Alumnae Hall on the Marygrove campus. As always, this event is free and open to the public.

A native of South Carolina, Hayes received a BA from Coker College in Hartsville SC, and an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh writing program. He has received many honors, including a Whiting Writers Award, a Pushcart Prize, three Best American Poetry selections, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. He is a professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University and lives in Pittsburgh.
