Bauder Contemporary American Authors Series

On April 19, 2013, the Department of English and Modern Languages will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bauder Contemporary American Authors Series.

Our guest artist will be award-winning poet Terrance Hayes, the author of Lighthead (Penguin 2010), which won the National Book Award for Poetry; Wind in a Box (2006); Hip Logic (2002), which won the 2001 National Poetry Series and was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award; and Muscular Music (1999), which won the Kate Tufts Discovery Award.

Mr. Hayes will deliver the Lillian and Don Bauder Lecture at 8 pm on Friday, April 19, 2013, in Alumnae Hall on the Marygrove campus. As always, this event is free and open to the public.

A native of South Carolina, Hayes received a BA from Coker College in Hartsville SC, and an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh writing program. He has received many honors, including a Whiting Writers Award, a Pushcart Prize, three Best American Poetry selections, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. He is a professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University and lives in Pittsburgh.
