MARYGROVE COLLEGE AND REDFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTS

Black History Month EVENT

Black HairStory: Back to Our Roots Art Exhibit

Reception: Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Curated by Erin Marie McDonald the Black HairStory exhibit explores two divergent trends in black hair: specifically the Detroit Hair Wars, an hautecouture competitive styling exhibition founded in Detroit, and the growing nation-wide natural hair care movement that is signaling a move away from chemical-ladden hair processes. The hyper-local exhibition features hairstyles created in the Metropolitian Detroit community and acts as microcosm for the larger stage of black hair.

Location : Beyond Words Gallery in the Library
