Anthony P. McGlaun is a native Detroiter, and began singing at the age of five in the Sunbeam choir at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. He received formal music training at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he studied voice with Dr. Mel Foster. Mr. McGlaun was a touring member and soloist with the world renowned Morehouse College Glee Club and recorded three albums with the group. He also sang in the Morehouse College Quartet.

Mr. McGlaun continued his study of voice at the University of Northern Iowa with Dr. Darryl Taylor, and in June of 2004 he received a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance. While at the University of Northern Iowa, he performed the role of Martin in The Tenderland and was a featured soloist and recital performer. In July of 2003, Mr. McGlaun sang the roles of Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro in Rome, Italy with the Rome Festival. Mr. McGlaun currently sings with the Michigan Opera Theater Chorus and Christ Church Cranbrook Choir. He also performs around the Metropolitan Detroit area as well as nationally as a soloist and recitalist.

In the fall of 2004, Mr. McGlaun joined the faculty of Marygrove College as Interim Director of Vocal Activities. In the fall of 2005, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Music at Marygrove. In the summer of 2006, as a Tanglewood fellow, Mr. McGlaun performed with the Boston Pops Symphony and sang the role of Robert in the Hindemith opera “Hin und zuruck”. He also performed on two recitals and was coached by Dennis Helmrich and Dawn Upshaw. This fall, he can be seen in Michigan Opera Theater’s production of Porgy and Bess.
