Job Title:                             Intermediate Accountant

Department:                        Financial Services

Reports To:                        Director of Financial Services

Classification:                     Administration Staff/Full-Time/Exempt

Summary

The Intermediate Accountant supports all general ledger activities including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliation of asset, liability, revenue and expense accounts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Daily and monthly reconciliation of financial subsystems including A/R, A/P, payroll, fixed assets, bank accounts, and investments
  • Monthly and annual financial reporting with analysis of income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, grant reporting and tax returns
  • Assist with monthly and annual budget processes with analysis of both monthly and yearly comparisons
  • Assist with all required federal and state filing requirements including but not limited to tax forms 1099, 1098-T, 990 and 5500 as well as financial portions of annual IPED and FISAP filings
  • Participate in interdepartmental efforts to improve operational efficiency and student service
  • Back-up other accounting positions
  • Work in conjunction with departments across campus on reporting requirements
  • Assist with documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Periodically review and update accounting procedures and policies
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated accounting and internal controls capability
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required; CPA, MBA and/or MSA are preferred
  • Two to four years of experience preferably in higher education/not-for-profit sector or public accounting
  • Knowledge of computerized administrative financial data systems (familiarity with Ellucian Colleague and Raiser’s Edge systems a plus) including Microsoft products with a good deal of experience working in Excel
  • Ability to meet deadlines and take responsibility for timely and accurate completion of tasks assigned
  • Ability to commit to a flexible work schedule
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills
  • Accounting professional who upholds the values and mission of the institution
