The Science & Mathematics and Education Departments of Marygrove College invite applications for a tenure-track joint appointment as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education, available January 2012.  This faculty member will be a joint member of two departments - the Education Department and the Science and Math Department - with teaching load shared between the departments.

Responsibilities include teaching mathematics education courses and math teaching methods courses in both the Elementary and Secondary teacher certification programs, as well as foundational undergraduate mathematics courses.  The successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate teacher education students, collaborate in the design and coordination of mathematics education courses, and contribute to community outreach projects focused on identified needs in the area of Mathematics Education.

Required: Doctorate in Mathematics Education or related field [ABD will be considered]; record of successful elementary or secondary mathematics teaching experience; evidence of potential for active research and publication agenda; experience working with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds; experience with leading strategies for student success in mathematics; and ability to enhance collaboration between the two departments involved with the joint appointment.

Preferred: Teacher certification at the elementary or secondary level; ability to function well in a technological environment that includes using multimedia classroom resources and online pedagogies, previous college teaching, and experience in providing outreach and professional development for in-service mathematics teachers.
