Sacred Heart Chapel is the chapel of Marygrove College. It is
a remarkable example of classic Gothic architecture, with marble altars,
hand carved pews, magnificent stained glass windows, and a French Romantic
sounding Casavant organ. It is truly a place for Christian worship and
reflection for the entire Marygrove College Community. The seating capacity
of the Chapel is 325.
Sacred
Heart Chapel may be rented for Catholic weddings under the directives
of the Archdiocese of Detroit, with delegation of the pastor of Gesu
Parish, in which Marygrove is located. To celebrate a marriage in this
chapel, either the bride and/or the groom must be a Catholic.
The rental fee includes:
- The actual rental of the Chapel for three hours for preparation, liturgical ceremony, pictures and/or receiving line.
- An hour in the Chapel is reserved a day or two before the wedding for the rehearsal.
- The college also provides a wedding coordinator who is present for both the rehearsal and the wedding, assuring that the chapel is ready for the celebration and assisting the wedding couple in terms of the actual ceremony.
- The college also provides candles, vestments and all that is needed for the liturgy.
The wedding couple must provide their own priest and music, though the Marygrove Campus Minister may be asked for recommendations for these services. Simple decorations are permitted, but nothing that would mark or diminish the natural beauty of the Chapel. Outside of Advent and Lent, weddings can be scheduled for any weekend at almost any hour that does not conflict with the regular college schedule. Weddings are booked at least six months prior to the intended date.
