MARYGROVE CELEBRATES FOUNDERS' DAY WITH "HAVE A
SEAT" ON NOVEMBER 10, 2005
Marygrove College will celebrate Founder’s Day, Thursday evening,
November 10, 2005, with a special event, “Have
A Seat” Chair Auction and Strolling Dinner.
This exciting fundraiser will feature the work of local artists
who have transformed old Marygrove chairs into works of art. [More]

10 live and silent auction in person or not, we want to share the
excitement of that event with you! Eleven chairs are available for
bidding beginning October 1 at noon and ending October 25 at noon.
This is also a great way to get a “sneak peek” at some
of these works of art.
FALL 2005 SCHEDULE: THE GALLERY AT MARYGROVE COLLEGE
The Gallery at Marygrove College is a beautiful gothic space located
in the Department of Art on the fourth floor of the Liberal Arts
Building. For many years, The Gallery has presented important visual,
sound and performance art from Detroit area and from nationally

LAWRENCE JOSEPH TO PRESENT HIS POETRY
Marygrove College Institute for Detroit Studies and English and
Modern Languages Department present a “Defining Detroit”
event entitled “So Many Selves”: The Poetry of Lawrence
Joseph. Detroit-born poet Joseph will be reading from a new volume
of poems, Into It, and from his newly-issued collection,
Codes, Precepts, Biases and Taboos: Poems 1973-1993 followed
by a book signing. The event will take place on Thursday, October
20, 2005, at 7:30 p.m., in the Alumnae Hall of the Madame Cadillac

MARYGROVE'S GARDEN FEATURED ON MONTEL WILLIAMS
A film crew from the Montel Williams Show was on campus Saturday,
August 27, to document Marygrove’s partnership with the non-profit
organization, Urban Farming. A small vegetable garden behind Florent
Gillet was planted and is being maintained by Marygrove’s
Campus Ministry Department, faculty, staff and students. The garden
is growing well and the food gathered in the fall will be donated
to Forgotten Harvest to feed our neighbors. Plants were donated
by Associate Professor of Chemistry Steve Scribner and Associate
Professor of Social Work Jann Hoge. [More]
SHOP ON-LINE AND SUPPORT DESERVING STUDENTS
The Marygrove College Alumni Association has registered with an
online shopping mall called OneCause that allows a percentage of
your total bill to be donated back to the Alumni Association. Funds
raised through OneCause will be used to provide scholarships for
deserving students. Shopping couldn’t be easier as there are
hundreds of online merchants and stores at which to shop. [More]
MARYGROVE COLLEGE INVITES STUDENTS DISPLACED BY HURRICANE
KATRINA TO COMPLETE ‘05-‘06 ACADEMIC YEAR
President Glenda Price announced an invitation to Detroit area students
who were in Louisiana and the surrounding areas devastated by Hurricane
Katrina to complete their 2005-06 academic year at Marygrove College.
