To celebrate Founders’ Day 2007, Marygrove will again host the “Have a Seat…and more!” Chair Auction and Strolling Dinner in Alumnae Hall on Thursday, November 8. Founders’ Day commemorates the founding of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1845, as well as the founding of Marygrove in 1927, which they continue to sponsor. [More]
ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
The President’s Council Dinner, which took place Wednesday, October 17, is an annual celebration of our major donors for their contributions to Marygrove College. The College recognizes the leadership role donors play with their financial and moral support of our work every day, every year, this year. It is an appropriate time to also say thank our alumni, faculty, staff and volunteers for the many ways they give of themselves to Marygrove. [PHOTOS]
NEW EMPLOYEES TOUR IHM MOTHERHOUSE
On the morning of Friday, October 12, a group of new employees at Marygrove hopped in a van and drove down the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, Michigan, where they were given a tour of the Motherhouse and oriented to the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Sr. Kathy Tkach led the first meeting and Sr. Marie Gabe led a tour of the building and grounds. This orientation has been going on for years, and ensures that the values of the IHM Sisters live on in current employees and students. [PHOTOS]
NEW HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH GLEN DONAHUE
Hall of Famer Glen Donahue was named the new head men’s basketball coach, effective October 1. This additional staff person will allow Dave Sichterman to devote more time to being the director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation. Coach Donahue, 72, brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the Mustangs program. For over 40 years, Coach Donahue has been involved with coaching as assistant or head coach at every level from high school to NCAA Division I programs. He has amassed over 750 career wins, including a .618 winning percentage at the college level. [More]
FOX 2 NEWS COMES TO GARDEN AGAINST HUNGER AT MARYGROVE
On Thursday, October 11, FOX 2 News anchor and health reporter Deena Centofanti and the Fox 2 News crew visited Marygrove to cover a story about Urban Farming, the nonprofit organization founded by Taja Sevelle. In partnership with Urban Farming, Marygrove created its Garden Against Hunger three years ago. Kettering and Mumford High School students, who have planted their own school gardens, joined Marygrove students to enjoy salads made from vegetables grown in our garden. In his interview, President David Fike told Deena that our urban garden is an example of our commitment to Urban Leadership.

GREAT LAKES BIONEERS DETROIT CONFERENCE (GLBD) CURRENTLY AT MARYGROVE
Bioneers was founded in 1990 to disseminate breakthrough solutions in response to the urgent call from leading scientists to restore the Earth’s imperiled eco-systems and heal our human communities. Humanity needs to change its way of living on Earth in order to avert global environmental catastrophe. Beaming Bioneers satellite conferences began six years ago. In 2005, two IHM sisters and a group of volunteers organized the Detroit conference. From today through Sunday, October 21, the main conference in San Rafael, California, will be connected each day through a live satellite broadcast. LEND A HAND SANDWICH TO GO PROGRAM
Saturday, October 27, 2007; 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
The Alumni Association has volunteered once again to assist with the Cass Community Social Services’ Sandwich to Go Program on Saturday, October 27, 2007, from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Scott Center, 11850 Woodrow Wilson Dr., Detroit. This program, which provides meals for detainees, funds a significant number of Cass Community Social Services’ projects. We will prepare 1,200 sandwiches that will be distributed among Detroit Police Department precincts. This is a great way to carry out the mandates to feed the poor and visit (figuratively) those in prison.
