SUMMER 2007 FESTIVAL OF DANCE
The 38th Festival of Dance kicks off June 25. The Festival provides a total of three weeks of daily, quality instruction in various dance techniques.  The first session of classes is June 25 - 29, and the second is August 6 - 17. It allows for Michigan students to study with the best which are in their own backyard. During each session, international master artists will teach 90-minute technique classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, hip-hop, Dunham Technique, and stretch and tone. [More]

INSTITUTE FOR ARTS-INFUSED EDUCATION HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL SUMMER INTENSIVE ON AUGUST 13 - 15.
Marygrove College will offer a three-day summer intensive workshop for educators and artists on August 13 - 15.  Titled “Community Arts Partnerships-Modeling Innovative Methods in English Language Arts Education,” the College’s Institute for Arts-Infused Education (IAIE) will provide collaborative hands-on sessions with the Detroit Institute of Art, Michigan Opera Theatre and Matrix Theatre Company. PRESIDENT FIKE VISITS ALUMNI IN TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN
On Saturday, June 2, President Dr. David Fike, Assistant Dean of Professional Studies Dr. Brenda Bryant, and Director of Alumni Relations Diane Puhl attended a luncheon for alumni in the Traverse City area.  Mary Anderson Walker ’56 helped organized the event which was held at Trattoria Stella, one of the area’s finest restaurants.  Guests were pleased to have the opportunity to meet President Fike and hear about his strategic vision of Urban Leadership for the College. GOLF FOR A GREAT CAUSE!
Join us Monday, September 10 for the Sixth Annual Marygrove Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble at St. John's Golf and Conference Center in Plymouth, MI.  Come join your friends for a round of golf or meet for dinner on this historical and beautiful site.  Proceeds from the event provide scholarships to deserving students as well as support the Mustang Athletic Program. TRANSFER STUDENT FAIR, JUNE 23
A scholarship from Marygrove College might be yours…find out at our on-site admissions fair for transfer students.  The fair is Saturday, June 23, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Prospective transfer students need to bring copies of their transcripts and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0.  They can be admitted on the spot!  Scholarships for students for the fall ’07 semester are still available for students who qualify.  There will be hourly raffles for $25 and $50 Marygrove bookstore vouchers, and free popcorn, cotton candy, and slushies.  Prospective students who apply then will have their application fee waived, and those who put down a deposit will have their deposit amount reduced.  Please try and RSVP by Monday, June 18 to Tiffany Cherry at (313) 927-1570 or tcherry@marygrove.edu.

JOSH WHELAN, FROM TAYLOR’S KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL, SIGNS WITH MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM
Josh Whalen, a senior forward from Taylor’s Kennedy High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball next season at Marygrove College in Detroit.  The 6’5” Whalen led a young Kennedy team to an 8-13 record in 2006-07.  He averaged 12.8 points per game and 5.7 rebounds his senior year. Bankhoops.com ranks Whalen number 23 in the state among small forwards.  Steve Bell from Bankhoops.com considers Whalen “a capable scorer with decent perimeter skills who should develop into a very good NAIA player.” [More]

THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S "RELAY FOR LIFE" IS JUNE 23 ON MARYGROVE'S CAMPUS
Are you ready to relay? The American Cancer Society’s 4th annual “Relay For Life” of Detroit will take place on June 23 - 24, starting at 10:00 a.m at Marygrove College. Detroiters can join the fight against cancer at this community event that will feature food, entertainment and activities for children. The Relay For Life is the Society’s signature event and is dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer. Teams of family, friends and co-workers raise dollars by walking in this overnight relay. [More]

HAVE A SEAT RETURNS – NOVEMBER 8!
Due the popularity and success of the past two years, Marygrove College will again host Have A Seat…and more! Chair Auction and Strolling Dinner on Thursday, November 8. The occasion commemorates the founding of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1845, as well as the founding of Marygrove in 1927, which they continue to sponsor. This exciting fundraiser will feature the work of local and national artists who have transformed vintage Marygrove chairs and other items into collectible works of art. [More]

MARYGROVE PARTICIPATES IN THE RACE FOR THE CURE
Thank you to the “Marygrove Believers,” the team of Marygrove employees and their friends and family who walked and ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Detroit on Saturday, June 16.  This is a major event with over 30,000 people.  Marygrove’s team was organized by Alison McNeeley and Coreen McCaul, with additional support by Dave Sichterman.  The team contributed more than $1,775 dollars to the cause, and included 24 adults, 15 children and one dog! THIS JUST IN: AUTHOR SAMUEL R. DELANY TO SPEAK IN 2008!
Marygrove will host noted author Samuel R. Delany for the 21st Contemporary American Authors Lecture Series on Friday, April 11, 2008.  This prolific writer is the author of novels including Nova, Hogg, Dhalgren, Babel-17, Empire Star, Aye, Dark Reflections and Phallos and non-fiction works including The Motion of Light in Water: Sex and Science Fiction Writing in the East Village, 1957-1965.  Save the date!
