Cooperative Education and Internships offer qualifying students the opportunity to examine their chosen field first hand. Cooperative Education opportunities allow students to have a paid work experience while earning academic credit. These opportunities require the approval of a faculty advisor. Internship experiences may be paid or unpaid and range from short-term projects to full-time work assignments lasting the length of a term. Both programs enable you to apply the theories you have learned to work situations and to obtain valuable on-the-job experience. Internships vs. Co-ops

What is the difference between an internship and a co-op?

Internships are:

• • Full time work experiences during the summer semester
• • Part-time work experiences during the fall and winter semesters.
• • Paid or unpaid
• • Credit or not credit-bearing
• • Focused on upper-class students with a satisfactory grade point average

Co-ops are

• • Typically full-time, six-month work experiences
• • Usually paid and credit-bearing
• • Students are not usually taking classes at the time
• • Focused on upper-class students with a satisfactory grade point average and a declared major.
