Gilda Sferrella Pace ‘52 and her husband, Joe hosted the Marygrove Akron Chapter at their home in August for their annual summer event. It was quite an Italian feast and Gilda attended to every detail from her memorable invitations, to the etched wine glasses and the wooden napkins rings with the Marygrove insignia to the culinary delights that more then satisfied everyone's palate. Anna Lee Cleary '47 and her husband, Frank, Emily Butler Petrarca '61 and her husband, Tony, Catherine Baltes ’50, Loretta Schietroma '55, Kathleen McCabe Markovich '51 and Marge Wozniak Burkley '56 and her husband, Tom joined Gilda and Joe. What an incredible event.

Mary Jane Gagnier Gelpi ’53 relocated to Baton Rouge, LA in January 2007 after 53 years living in New Orleans. They miss New Orleans but it's nice being near their son, Dr. Gregory Gelpi, a pediatrician in Baton Rouge. They have two granddaughters in Baton Rouge. One started LSU last Fall and the other is a Junior at St. Joseph Academy. Emilie, the Junior, recently placed fourth in the team division of the 57th Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Albuquerque in May 2007. Their daughter, a dietitian, in Houston has three children. She is presently homeschooling the two youngest, Preston 13 years old, and Kendall 9 years old. Katrina hurt New Orleans but the city is surviving. It has been sad times for the city.
Mary Jane and her husband, John celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 19th at St. George's Parish in Baton Rouge followed by a cocktail reception at the Baton Rouge County Club. Attending were the couple's children and spouses, five grandchildren and three wedding attendants. Friends and family gathered from Michigan, New York, Texas and Louisiana. Their daughter and husband entertained the guests with a PowerPoint presentation of "50 Years Together".
Lois A. Ouellette Girardot ‘53 was inducted along with 21 other Brother Rice High School staff and faculty into the Edmund Rice Silver Society created to recognize those faculty and staff members who have provided 25 years or more of service to the Brother Rice community. Lois who is connected with the Guidance office has been at Brother Rice since 1980.

Muriel Fulford Mercer ’53 passed away March 19, 2007. Peg M. Slinger-Twyman ‘53 is enjoying retirement after a teaching career of 45 years. She is involoved in a Book Club, Wrtiers Group, Opera Workshop and of course beach walks. After a wonderful 18 year marriage she lost her husband, Vinton Lee Twyman in October 2006. A sudden cardiac arrest in their home caused his death. Memorial services were held in Myrtle Beach, SC, Richmond, VA and Rapidan, VA near Culpeper where he was born and raised on the Twyman family farm. He is deeply missed by Peg and all who knew him.

Charmaine T. Kaptur ’56 an artist and a member of the Grosse Pointe Art Association since 1990 was featured in the Detroit Free Press along with other local artists who are trying to sustain the new home of the Grosse Pointe Art Center. Mary S. Anderson Walker ‘56 hosted luncheon in June 2007 at the Trattoria Restaurant where alumnae were introduced to the recently inaugurated Marygrove president, Dr. David J. Fike.
Halina Swiatek Williams ‘56 and her husband, Clyde celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 18, 2007. They were surprised by the presence of Mary Anderson Walker '56, the maid of honor and two other members of their wedding party. The festivities began with liturgy and renewal of vows with the Bishop of Phoenix as the presider. This marriage is guaranteed for another 50 years. Her mother passed away March 3, 2008.

Mary Lou Draur Cain ’57 passed away April 29, 2004.
Roberta Cardamone Donaher ’57 retired in 1993 and is leading a busy life. She had a long career in social work at a state mental facility. She served as Director of Social Services in two nursing facilities for several years during retirement. She is currently enjoying her grandchildren and many activities including oil painting, golf and gardening.

Barbara Sutton Sullivan ‘57 recently returned from a pilgrimage to Poland and Eastern Europe. Her group was privileged to visit the home of Pope John Paul II, the convent of St. Faustina, and the Church of the Infant of Prague all of which proved to be very significant experiences.

Marguerite A. Pitock Laginess ‘58 is anticipating Homecoming 08 and would like to be in contact with classmates via email. Last year she visited with Joan Boudrie Gazdik ‘58 at her home in California and with Shirley Fraser Pritchard in Lebanon, Ohio. Last spring she had lunch with her "little sister" Rosemary Kuzewski Rogalle Pietras and looks forward to a visit with Lois Nelson ‘56. She and Audrey Lokanis ‘58 correspond via email on a regular basis.

Larnice (Lani) Swann Eklund ‘59 who owns, operates and restored the historic Inn at Locke House has been named chairwoman of the Lockeford Municipal Advisory Council in Lockeford, California. She has taught in primary, middle and high schools in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and California, and for the Department of Defense.
