This Year's Author Previous Authors About the Authors Series
Author A Native Detroiter Toi Derricotte has published three collections of poetry which draw upon her Detroit childhood. Her work earned the 1997 Literary Award for Nonfiction from theAmerican Library Association's Black Caucus. Derricotte has also received two NEA fellowships, the Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, and the Folger Shakespeare Library Poetry Book Award. She is associate professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh.
