Charles
Johnson was the eighteenth guest in the Contemporary
American Authors Lecture Series. Johnson is the
author of four novels, including Middle Passage,
which received the 1990 National Book Award, and Dreamer,
which focuses on the last months of the life of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. In addition, Johnson has written
two collections of short stories and numerous essays
about race and literature. Recipient of a 1998 MacArthur
Foundation Fellowship, Johnson is professor of English
at the University of Washington, Seattle. He
delivered the Bauder Lecture in Alumnae Hall at 8 p.m.
on Friday, April 7, 2006.
