There are many student groups on campus.

STUDENT GOVERNANCE
Council of Student Organizations
The Council of Student Organizations brings together representatives of all organizations on campus to plan activities and share in decision-making related to student activities and concerns.

Marygrove College Student Government
The Marygrove Student Government is the official representative of the college student body. The membership is elected each year at the beginning of the fall semester. The overarching goal of the Student Government is to work to enhance the quality of student life at Marygrove. Student Government plans‚ supports‚ and promotes student activities; surveys students and works to resolve student concerns; and represents the student body on college-wide committees.

AMERICAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION
The Marygrove collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association was formed to foster scientific study and research in the field of marketing; to develop sound thinking in marketing theory; to improve the methods and techniques of marketing research; to discuss legislation and judicial decisions regarding marketing; and to promote friendly relations between students, faculty, and business people.

ART CLUB
The Marygrove Art Club provides students with both a social and educational outlet for their artistic and creative interests. Activities include visits to art galleries, out-of-town trips, career workshops, charitable work, and occasional off-campus competitions. All students are welcome to become members whether they are art majors, art minors, or merely have an interest in art.

ASSOCIATION OF BLACK SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS (ABSWS)
ABSWS is the student section of the Association of Black Social Workers, a national professional organization. ABSWS fosters the growth and development of black social work students who are committed to addressing issues facing the black community.

THE EDUCATIONAL TECHONOLOGY CLUB
The Educational Technology Club is a student organization established by the Teacher Certification students of Marygrove College to provide students in the teacher certification program and in-service training teachers with the opportunity to prepare for teaching in the 21st Century. This organization serves to assist in developing skills and competencies for using classroom-related technology/media that will support student learning activities.

HONOR SOCIETIES AND AWARDS
The Marygrove Chapter of Kappa Gamma Pi, the national Catholic college honor society, is active on campus, as are the following national honor societies: Pi Delta Phi (French), Phi Alpha (Social Work), Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish), and Sigma Tau Delta (English).

An honor society unique to Marygrove—Iota Gamma Alpha—recognizes outstanding students for their academic success, distinguished leadership, and exemplary service contributions to the College and civic community.

Two of the major awards given at the Honors Convocation are the Distinguished Student Award and the St. Catherine Medal. The Marygrove Distinguished Student Award is given to an outstanding senior, chosen on the basis of academic excellence, leadership ability, and service to the community. The St. Catherine Medal is an award for the sophomore or junior who has either rendered some specific outstanding service to the College or established the best record for progressive achievement.

A specified number of juniors or seniors with at least 24 credits at Marygrove and
a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better is eligible for Who’s Who Among Students
in American Universities and Colleges. Students are also awarded honors for excellence in their majors.

THE AMBASSODORS PROGRAM
Perhaps the most distinguished leadership opportunity for students is the ambassador program. Students who are eligible for this highly competitive program must have a solid 3.0 GPA, they must be in good conduct standing with the college, and they must have strong intellectual, writing and speaking skills. Along with the opportunity to represent the college by interacting with on campus dignitaries and community leaders, ambassadors are provided with stipends for their time and achievement. MARYGROVE COLLEGE DANCE TEAM
This organization is open to all Marygrove College Students. Those with dance training are strongly urged to apply as selection of members is based on individual performance during an audition. Dance Team members will perform at home basketball games, Spirit Day, and pep rallies. Interested persons should contact the office of Special Events for club leader contact information.

MARYGROVE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (MBA)
The MBA is a student organization of business majors and minors. It provides a network between business students and faculty, and between business graduates and members of the Detroit area business community. It meets regularly to plan activities to promote professional development and career awareness.

NETWORK
Network is a national organization of social work students. It serves as a support system for those students as well as a link between them and the general student body. Its purpose is to provide a positive image as well as a greater understanding of the social work profession.

PEER MENTORING PROGRAM
The Peer Mentor Program is a one-on-one opportunity to encourage and assist students in attaining their academic and personal goals. It is a service that offers students advice and assistance from other experienced students. For information, call (313) 927-1474.

PSYCHOLOGY CLUB
The Psychology Club is open to all students in psychology or social science. Its purpose is to support the growth and development of psychology students at Marygrove. It provides a structure and forum for the exchange of ideas, and develops programs and services in the interest of students. The Club also links with other psychology organizations and associations.

SCIENCE CLUB
The Marygrove College Science Club was formed to serve as a support system by allowing students studying the field of science to become familiar with other students in their field of study. Students can set up study groups, network, and explore current events and job opportunities in the field of science.

SO BHEAS CLUB
The So Bheas Club (Gaelic for “better living”) is open to all students majoring in family and consumer sciences. This club promotes professional development, brings exciting personalities and events to campus, and creates camaraderie between members of the department.

SOULFUL EXPRESSIONS ENSEMBLE
This gospel/contemporary jazz student group performs within the College, around the metro Detroit area and competes nationally. Membership is open to all Marygrove College students and is based on an audition. Interested persons should contact the office of Special Events for the current club leader’s contact information.

If you or someone you know has an interest in starting a new organization on campus, contact the office of Special Events to receive the necessary forms for approval.

THE WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Each academic year, from September-May, the Women’s Leadership Institute offers 15 Marygrove women a series of curricular and co-curricular activities designed to build their leadership skills. To take part in the program, the women are recommended by staff and/or faculty. Once selected, women leaders in the community mentor the students. The students also attend biweekly workshops exploring and learning essential skills for the 21st century leader. Finally, the student develops and delivers a workshop to the women living at Peggy’s Place. Completion of the activities culminates in a leadership certificate.
