FAQ’s
Q. Where are the Commencement exercises being held and what time will they begin?
The 2008 Commencement exercises will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 on the beautiful grounds of our main campus, Marygrove College. If we incur inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the alternate site of Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. Seven Mile, Detroit, MI. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Graduates must arrive no later than 10:00 a.m. for assembly.
Q. How will I know if the location of Commencement has been changed to the alternate site?
A. Students may check the Marygrove website or contact the Registrar’s Office at (313) 927-1260 on May 7th after 5:00 p.m. for a recorded message to confirm the Commencement site.
Q. How many tickets am I allowed for Commencement exercises?
No tickets are required. Please plan to attend with your guests.
Q. How long will the Commencement exercises last?
A. Graduates can plan on the Commencement exercises to last approximately 2 hours. This does not include assembly or departure time.
Q. How can I make sure I’m graduating?
If you have received this packet that is a good sign. It means that you have completed your
application for graduation and that your name is on the list for graduation. However, if you are still currently enrolled in your last semester of classes, that question can only be answered after you have completed all requirements to receive your degree. Once you complete your classes and final grades are posted, a degree audit will be conducted. If there are any concerns, you will be contacted via phone or mail from the Registrar’s Office.
Q. Will I graduate with honors?
Only students receiving their Bachelor’s Degree are considered for honors. Graduation honors are determined by using the last 64 credit hours taken at Marygrove College. The grade point average criteria for graduation honors is as follows:
Summa Cum Laude 3.95 - 4.00 Honor Cord Color Gold
Magna Cum Laude 3.75 - 3.94 Honor Cord Color Silver
Cum Laude 3.50 - 3.74 Honor Cord Color Green
Q. What is Exit Loan Counseling?
Any students who have received student loans must participate in an Exit Loan Counseling
session. Exit Loan Counseling provides students with important information about student loan repayment, forbearance, forgiveness, default prevention, loan consolidation and other student loan and credit matters. For more information contact Financial Aid at (313) 927-1292.
Q. How will I receive my diploma?
Diploma’s are released to graduates who have settled all financial obligations to the College. Recipients only, with proper picture ID, may pick up their diploma from the Registrar’s Office, Liberal Arts Building, Room 102 on Friday, May 9, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, 8:30 -10:00 a.m. Diplomas that are not picked up will be sent via US mail to the recipient’s address on file.
Q. If I or one of my guests has a disability that will require additional assistance for commencement, whom do I contact?
A. If you or one of your guests will require assistance while on campus or at the commencement site, please contact the Registrar’s Office at (313) 927-1238.
Q. Can I participate in commencement with a balance on my student account?
A. Yes. Any graduate with a prior balance will be able to participate (walk) in the commencement ceremony. However, your diploma and transcript will not be released until all prior balances are paid.
Q. How can I find out if I have a balance on my account?
Your on-line statement can be obtained through Web Advisor or by visiting the Business
Office located inside the Enrollment Center, Liberal Arts Building, Room 120.
What is Community Service Day?
A. Each year, seniors are invited to participate in the annual “Community Service Day” by volunteering their time to help others. One of the three C’s at Marygrove College is compassion, may this virtue be practiced as we give thanks for all we have received. For more information call Campus Ministry at (313) 927-1584.
Q. How do I stay connected to Marygrove College once I graduate?
A. Upon graduating you will automatically become a member of the Alumni Association. You will receive a copy of the Tower Times approximately 3 times a year, which will include programs, educational opportunities, professional development, and travel opportunities geared toward alums. You can visit our website at: Alumni Dept. homepage or you may contact the Alumni Relations office at (313) 927-1572 for more information.
Q. If I have moved, how can I make sure I will receive current and future mailings?
A. Verification of your correct name, address, phone number, and e-mail address can be done at the Registrar’s Office (313) 927-1260 or Enrollment Center (313) 927-1692.
Q. Whom do I call if I have general questions about commencement?
Graduates needing more information may call the Enrollment Center at (313) 927-1692 or 866-903-3033.
Q. How soon after classes end will I be able to order a transcript reflecting my degree?
Degrees will be posted to transcripts approximately 30 days after the semester has ended. Transcripts may be ordered online and will be sent out within 5-7 business days. If you wish to receive a transcript, please order them through Web Advisor.
