Fall 2009 Tower Times

Upon approval from the Board of Trustees, on Monday, May 18, 2009 Marygrove College took ownership of the former Immaculata High School, located on the east side of the College’s property, which most recently housed Bates Academy. According to Sr. Janet Ryan, a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Leadership Council and Vice Chair of the Marygrove College Board of Trustees, Immaculata was built in 1941 “out of a deep concern by Cardinal Edward Mooney that Northwest Detroit did not have a Catholic all-girls high school. The IHMs were more than willing to help fill this void because of our commitment to education and belief that ‘when you educate a woman, you educate an entire family.”
