What do classroom teachers and school leaders need to know about assessment?

How can institutions of higher education help prepare them?

Amy Bernstein ColtonAmy B. Colton, Co-director of Colton, Langer &  Associates, LLC.  Amy is co-author of Collaborative Analysis of Student Work: Improving Teaching and Learning, (CASL) an ASCD publication. Developed with over 100 teachers, CASL combines action research, study groups, standards-based learning, student assessment and teacher reflections.

 

Patricia DrakePatricia Drake, Data Consultant, Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency. She works with districts to use data as a focus for their decisions to improve educational quality.  Patricia was the Assessment Consultant in the curriculum department for the Warren Consolidated Schools.

 

Chukwunyere E OkezieChukwunyere E. Okezie, Director of the Griot Program, Marygrove’s African American Male Career Changers. Chuk is also the Coordinator of Secondary Education and a member of the Board of Examiners (BOE) of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

 

Karen P. RidgewayKaren P. Ridgeway, Assistant Superintendent, Office of Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Accountability, Detroit Public Schools. Karen is a former Detroit Public Schools teacher, a special instructor at Wayne County Youth Home and a school-wide testing coordinator.

 

Hakim ShahidHakim Shahid, Assistant Professor of Education, Madonna University. He is President of the Wayne County Reading Council and a strong advocate for content area reading and critical literacy. Hakim supports the charge for authentic instruction for all children to foster a more literate citizenry.

 

Darwin K. ShortersDarwin K. Shorters, Marygrove College Student Teacher. Darwin was a math instructor in Pontiac Public Schools. He taught algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and physics. Darwin was a participant in the Technology Enhancement & Assessment Grant through Oakland Schools.
