PHY 200 Exploring The Universe 2 hours

This course presents an introduction to the field of Astronomy, including the current investigations for life on other planets. This 2 credit course consists of 12 lessons. Course topics include modern methods of observational astronomy, an overview of the scientific method, age and origin of the Solar System, descriptions of the planets and discussions of the possibility of life on other planets.
PHY 252 College Physics I 4 hours

The course introduces a wide range of Physics topics, with an eye toward pre-medical preparation. Our approach includes conceptual, interactive discussion in lecture, quantitative problem-solving in groups and individually, and hands-on application of physical ideas in lab experiments. The motion of objects, from particles to planets, is the focus of this course. The revolution in human understanding of mechanics, inspired by Galileo and developed by Newton and others is the lens through which our modern mechanical world is surveyed. Students will make extensive use of algebra and trigonometry in applying the fundamental laws of classical physics to real-world problems, and will explore the physicists approach to inquiry through laboratory investigations. PHY 253 College Physics II 4 hours
Prerequisite: PHY 252; Term: Winter; Fee: yes
The course introduces a wide range of Physics topics, with an eye toward pre-medical preparation. Our approach includes conceptual, interactive discussion in lecture, quantitative problem-solving in groups and individually, and hands-on application of physical ideas in lab experiments. We will briefly review selected topics from Physics 1, including rotational kinematics and energy. We will study elasticity, fluids, ideal gasses, wave behavior, light and sound, simple harmonic motion, electricity and magnetism, and thermodynamics. Laboratory Included.
