A Master of Arts in Educational Leadership will provide students with
advanced knowledge and skills in managing and leading the modern school.
This program focuses on the principal as the instructional leader and
the chief architect of change in the school. In addition to a thorough
grounding in the fundamental principles of administrative and management
theory and capacity building, students will be introduced to the concept
of the principal as change agent. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring
organizational development, assessment, change skills and identifying
and working with the issues facing the urban school administrator.

Q & A
What are the primary concentrations
of this degree? Students are able to elect a concentration
in elementary, secondary an/or charter school administration after
completing a 21-hour core leadership and management curriculum.
The concentration requires completion of 15/18 hours of course
work in foundations of elementary, secondary or charter school
administration.
Does the online program provide opportunities
to interact with other students? Yes. The online program consists
of all the course work described above, as well as Practicum and Special
Issues Classes, which will be offered once a year for one week at Marygrove
College for the three years of the program. On-campus students will
also attend these sessions.
How
can this degree enhance my future? There is a growing need for
Educational administrators who can work toward fundamental change in
schools. Revisions to the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLBA) will require
all principals to be “Highly Qualified”, which will call
for school districts to hire principals that are well grounded in Educational
Leadership theory and practice. Program coordinators, instructional
supervisors, directors, or department heads also will benefit from this
program. Marygrove graduates often continue to study for doctoral degrees
in Educational leadership at other institutions.
Requirements:
Students must have a bachelor’s degree, a 3.0 GPA and a teaching
